
Their is one process for both IMPORTERS
applying on their own behalf and BROKERS applying on behalf
of their clients.
First, you submit the
following information to the Remote Filing Team, U.S. Customs Service, 1300
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Room 5.2A, Washington DC 20229-0001:
1.Filer name, address, filer code and IRS#;
2.Experience with EIP (Electronic Invoice Processing);
3.Experience with ACH (Automated Clearinghouse)
4.Site(s) from which you will be transmitting the
electronic information;
5.Type of protocol you use (AII, EDIFACT, or both);
6.Point of contact.
Headquarters
will verify your transmission capabilities in the required automation programs.
If previous electronic invoiced entry transmissions are satisfactory, you will
be advised in writing that your first stage application for Remote Location
Filing is approved.
Second, once you have
received written approval from U.S. Customs Headquarters, you must submit a
copy of the first stage written approval and the following information--for
each importer--to the Port Director(s) responsible for each requested Port of
Arrival (POA) and any Designated Exam Site (DES) location:
1.Participating importer name, telephone number and
Importer Number;
2.Supplier name, address, and manufacturer's number;
3.Commodities to be imported;
4.Other Government Agency requirements;
5.Site(s) from which you will be transmitting the
electronic information;
6.Port(s) of arrival, with 4-digit Port Code(s);
7.Designated
Examination Site(s) located nearest the final destination(s), with 4- digit Port
Code(s);
8.Monthly entry volume anticipated;
9.Carriers used and their Automated Manifest System
(AMS) status;
10.Main contact person and telephone number;
11.
Certification
that a copy of the application letter was provided to the Importer named in item
1.
Each
port involved will evaluate your application to determine if the commodities
fall within those allowed in the Remote Location Filing prototype, if there are
any other government agency paper documentation required, as well as the
potential impact on their resources. If your application and the field
evaluation are satisfactory, you will be advised in writing that your request
to participate in Remote Location Filing is approved.
Now. There is no deadline
for applying to participate in Remote Location Filing. However, please reveiw
the Eligibility Requirements before submitting your application.
